Tasty ice-cream at a very good, competitive price makes this a winner.
I generally avoid home brand grocery products. They’re cheaper, sure, but I like to support greater choice at the supermarket.
That said, if I see the Coles brand Ultimate Peanut Butter Cookie Dough ice-cream at a distance in the supermarket, I’ll happily push people to the ground and charge at it.
Compare this to a Ben & Jerry’s tub and there’s no competition. B&J is, simply, a better quality product. Both in terms of ingredient quality and in texture. I can’t avoid making a comparison between this and Ben & Jerry’s –
it reminds me strongly of the discontinued B&J Peanut Butter Half Baked (which has been, to date, my favourite Ben & Jerry’s product… RIP).
But, this Coles ice-cream is charming as heck. I’m a sucker for peanut butter flavours and this has a really nice balanced flavour. Rippled through the ice-cream is some tasty chocolate and, as the name suggests, there are plentiful lumps of cookie dough generously found throughout the pint.
Plus, it’s $6. In doing high-level ice-cream math, it’s worth considering that this is half the price of, say, the Ben & Jerry’s Tonight Dough, but this is at least 2/3 as good.
Once you get a mouthful or two in, it’s incredibly more-ish and you’re in for the whole pint.
The ice-cream scientists at Coles have nailed this one. It’s a good ‘un.
