There’s a reason why Mars Bars are so widely consumed: They’re delicious. That amazing combination of nougat, caramel, and dark chocolate is a wining combination. As soon as Mars veer away from this combination with anything else and it never quite works.
The Caramel variety of Mars Bar is no exception. Here the nougat has been stripped out in favour of a whole lot of caramel. As the name suggests.
It’s just too much caramel and when paired with the dark chocolate one expects from a Mars Bar, it just doesn’t quite taste right. It really feels like something is missing. That nougat is pretty important to the recipe.
It would have been far more interesting if Mars just offered a milder variation to the existing Mars Bar. Salted Caramel is ridiculously hip right now. Why not offer a Salted Caramel Mars Bar? Conceptually that sounds pretty amazing. Certainly more appealing than this lacklustre Caramel Mars Bar.
