Another Packed flavour, another Ben & Jerry’s wannabe. This Packed product is an effort to mimic Ben & Jerry’s Couch Potato (known in the US as Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night Snack) and, like their Under Done / Half Baked copycat product, this embodies the intention of the original Ben & Jerry’s product, but lacks its sense of spirit.
Hippy Chippy, like Couch Potato, is a vanilla ice-cream, with salted caramel swirls and chocolate-covered potato chips. Missing from the original is fudge.
The biggest crime of Hippy Chippy is that it has copied a Ben & Jerry’s flavour that isn’t all that exciting to begin with. The salted caramel gets a little lost in the vanilla ice-cream and the choc-covered potato chips are a little bland in flavour and texture – difficult to get past when your base is a vanilla ice-cream.
If, for some reason, you really enjoy B&J’s Couch Potato, give this a go as it’s a few dollars cheaper. There’s more interesting flavours in the supermarket freezers, however.
